We are looking for PHP, Mysql developers!
For 2½ years Yuri Arcurs Photography has been working on a selling platform for the direct selling of the YA collection of images, videos, vectors, etc. We are well on the way and are now looking for additional freelance developers.
We are looking for the best of the best! People that have time, passion and are highly qualified. This is not a regular job-advertisement, but rather a search for talents.
About our upcoming site:
There are no short cuts in our code as it is now, and we take the long route if that is required. We are completely independent of any 3rd party platforms or solutions and have even custom made our framework for dealing only with our project. Our site is completely different from any other sites selling media content out there, so you must be able and willing to think outside the box and search for good solutions.
We work in the following languages:
• PHP
• MySQL
• Apache
• Subversion / Git
• Linux / Unix
• Smarty
• OOP / MVC
• jQuery
• CSS
About the jobs offered:
We are looking for the following talents and if you can say “that’s me” or it fits perfectly for somebody you know, we will be thrilled to do an interview on Skype in the upcoming weeks. Do not apply if you are not a highly motivated person who can put your heart and soul into this project.
All jobs below are freelance and can be done from home. You must speak close to perfect English, be online on Skype during your chosen working hours and there is enough work for potentially full-time in the first 3-4 months if you like.
Chief heavy load analyst and developer, code-optimizer, field experienced:
You must be able to analyse problems/benefits of code-structure, server-structure and come up with good solutions. You must have years of experience in building and running large websites and love the challenges of doing so. We are looking for a person who will take on this job with pride and with an investigative spirit explore, optimize and analyse potential problems and find solutions. Your job is to outsmart our current solutions, provide better ones and show the results. The perfect candidate for this job has had his/her own IT projects which have been successful; has built IT projects from scratch and followed them through and knows the challenges as traffic and demands grow. This project is part-time, well paid if your qualifications are good and for the right kind of person quite fun
Keywords: High IQ, Perfectionism, Thinker, Experience.
Chief Security Analyst:
This job entails finding and fixing security bugs/issues with our current platform. We are using a unique bonus structure system for sign-ups that must not be exploitable. Your job will also be to create parsing traps, IP-blockage systems, alarms and alerts, and, in your own way, secure the current platform against a range of potential attacks.
This project is well paid if your qualifications are good.
Keywords: Experience, Knowledge about Hacker methods and techniques.
Developer with industry experience in the field of online stock selling:
We are looking for developers that have been part of either terminated stock agencies or have discontinued working with other stock agency. You have in-depth industry knowledge and feel passionate about re-entering this arena.
Based on your industry knowledge you like userbility, finding small mistakes and double-checking so the final project does not have errors. You like coming up with good solution and thinking smart.
Work-horse Developer:
The perfect candidate for this job writes code fast, can get an overview fast and knows solutions to most issues based on experience. Can recognise bad code and fix it. Keywords: Lots of experience in PHP, MySQL and CSS, Fast thinker, High IQ, loves being #1 on the “finished items” todolist, a good colleague, service minded. This job is part-time to full-time, depending on you. Salary depends on experience completely. You must be ready to work day and night if the server is down or major problem arrives.
All Freelance staff will be invited to our headquarters in Denmark for a 2-3 week well paid work period prior to and after launch of the site.
Interested?
Then please complete the following assignment:
Make a script, which reads an RSS-feed from an external server and writes the title in a MySQL database. Afterwards a simple list of titles should be displayed, read from the database. It must be written in PHP, and if the script needs special settings or frameworks please inform us.
Send it to our recruitment officer Anne, on jobs.arcurs@gmail.com no later than July 29th 2011 and make sure to mark the mail for example “Chief Programmer” or “Work-horse Developer” and include:
Short motivation letter, CV, assignment solution, any reference letter from previous employers, something about yourself and when you can start. Don’t make a huge essay; we are primarily interested in your solution to the assignment and talking to you on Skype.
If you do not complete the assignment, your application will be irrelevant to us!
NB: Please note that any attempt to contact Yuri himself directly will disqualify you from the job!

Hi!
Noticed you guys got interested in creating your own solution! How nice!
But seriously, do you think that non-professional staff (you do photography, not web solutions) can effectively handle such a challenge?
Moreover, the way you put the task requirements.. PHP(!), parse-rss-feed-and-put-title-into-database… You made me smile!
Look, the ancient ages are over. If you really want to setup something significant, please get in touch with us – stockmediaengine.com. We specialize in (micro)stock solutions, we can offer you to spawn new project based on our platform, or we can develop everything from scratch.
And it definitely won’t be PHP. We use RoR.
Hahaha. I will let this post stay as it clearly is more of an embarrassment to yourself than me.
(dispute the slightly offending character). We may have made you smile, but you certainly made my developers smile (and even laugh a little) when we where reading this post today. It seems you even want to sell us something… What a sales-speech.
@Ivan, I guess a similar enlightening speech for the facebook guys would be nice too – you see, they use PHP too and even have created a home brew compiler to turn it to something even worse (aka HipHop), too bad they didn’t discover the merits of RoR sooner.
I did consider a Ruby framework, but ended up going for a standard Php, Mysql solution. Mainly because of employment factors. It is very hard to get a large staff of RAR developers. Right now I have 4 developers that really know their in and out of Php.

Whoa.. Seems like I started yet another holy war.
@Majid, I know a lot about PHP (I actually used it for about 10 years). I know that many large players use it. And I wouldn’t tell them a word. Because they already HAVE their code up and running. “If it works, don’t touch it”.
Facebook uses PHP.. Well, I seriously doubt that you guys here are going to launch yet another facebook.. especially taking into account the test task.
@Yuri, thank you very much for your compliments:)) It seems you have already done a lot of research and made your choice of technology. Also, you have your staff specialized in PHP. Of course it will be inefficient for you to switch to another technology on this stage.
The only thing I can suggest is to ask you to remember about us when you decide to launch new project that your crew wouldn’t be able to produce (due to huge work load for example)
Hello Yuri,
I am a programmer PHP / MySQL Italian. I follow you since I started to upload some photos to stock photo sites (dreamstime and crestock).
Hello
Marco
I hope your PHP developers know what they are doing. PHP developers, the best of the best or not, need to be properly managed. That I discovered on my own personal projects. The best way to approach this project if you are not hiring a reputable development firm, is to build your project on an existing reputable framework (Zend, Ruby). This cuts a lot of underlining problems with security, bugs…etc. Developers may recommend you to go fully customized (as they always do), but in the end this custom solution will cost your gazillion dollars, bugs, and unnecessary headache. Developers love custom solutions because they have their own ideas on how the project ought to be built. Most of the very good developers hate frameworks, because they assume they are short sighted, not efficient, bloated, or what have you.
You add another developer to the team because the other one bailed, you will have issues getting him up to speed even if you documented your project well. That is the reason why all developers ought to be properly managed, and guided.
We are very much interested to work on this project exactly as per your requirements as we understand efforts needed to complete such tasks. Kindly let us know good time to have a quick chat on your project to take this ahead. I will really appreciate if I could work with you.

Hi Guys.
Lots of good comments here.
My current team of developers consists of 7 full time PHP developers, 1 Senior developer, 1 designer and 1 front-ender. I am extremely ambitions about my new site as the Beta testers will come to see. What we are going launch is simply so different from anything out there now. We started out feeling like we where 2-3 years behind and went through four rounds of server move + massive programming changes. We have now ended up with something that is 2-3 years ahead of what is out there instead and making other sites look really old fashioned.
Good to hear those news. I love new stuffs and concepts. Did you choose already new staff members? I’m really interested, I applied to the job, i did my homework too
but no reply yet.
Also, check out my stock management project. It’s under development, and i still need some help there. It has a multi submitter, a stock analyser, and a worker management module built in (3 in 1), all web based PHP and MySQL solutins.
Hi Yuri
The purpose of a Photography blog is to update it at least once a week. Since you are very very busy shooting, you need to either a) change your design not to look like a photography blog, but maybe more like a portfolio site of your work, or b) hire a blogger to keep this site updated at least.
Thanks in advance
Haha this made me laugh for quite some time
Really nice of this guy to put up his company web, added to block list.
Anyone trying to build a company grand scale, must have their own programmers employed. It would be far to expensive to have a such extensive www setup done externally – wonder what the weekly cost for maintnance/updates would be from such a company. Even with Danish wages, my guess is that it would excess the cost of two full-time employed programmers.
Thanks again for the post Mr. Ivan, have a nice day – great laugh
Php is generally more acceptable with it comes to website development. Good luck to you Yuri. Hope you will have something for contributors application soon.
Hi Yuri,
Are you still looking for developpers ?
Dear Sir,
In response to your ad wherein you’re looking for an “image retoucher” in Cape Town;
I am passionate about what I do, a self starter and I am willing to go the extra mile. Learning is a huge bonus in any industry, therefore I will lap up this opportunity asif my entire career depended on it. It’s exciting and just what I’ve been looking for, given the opportunity I will not let you down. Therefore I am hopeful for an interview for this post. Please find my resume with your recruiting agency.
Sincerely,
Fazlyn Jakoet
hi Yuri, I am WebSphere & WebLogic Application Server Administrator since 10 years. I live in istanbul Turkey. I want to work with You. Bye.
please see my photo blog and tell me how i increase my skill :http://sv-arif-photography.blogspot.com/
Hi Yuri,
When will the new YA collection site be up and running? What’s the url? Will your images still be available on Microstock or just on your own site? Will there be just YA photo, video and vector (?) material on that site, or will you allow other contributors as well?
I am exclusive at iStock myself, I’m doing oke at the moment but I don’t think my future at iStock will be ‘sustainable’ enough in the long run. According to google trends Microstock is going down and I think having your collection available on your own site is the most sensible thing to do.
“NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY ATTEMPT TO CONTACT YURI HIMSELF DIRECTLY WILL DISQUALIFY YOU FROM THE JOB! ” – intersting note i read all the page and in final i read this….
it;s a little bit hillarious.
So there are not present information about the upcoming site etc etc the trend and the direction….u only looking and looking…probably u looking to pay very few for a good work…where are the motivation for applying? Why someone want to apply without knowing the motivation? We recieve what? … photos for uploading at stocks website?
Thinking and reconsider some notice in your announcement must change for a focused and precise direction…for succes
Hi,
I’m a sysdev, running my own company located in Sweden.
I do PHP, ASP, XHTML, CSS, AJAX, jQuery, MySQL.
However, i’m not going to apply for the job – but i would be interested in being a beta tester of your site.
As i have worked with web security for a while, and have a lot of experience in designing for the web – i think i might be able to help you out.
I personally found you by a friend of mine that you had a shoot with a while ago!
Please send me an email if interested!
Best regards,
Nick
