Yuri Arcurs is looking for a runner/first assistant

Posted on: May 23, 2008 (4) Comments

I am looking for a runner/first assistant. If you are young, ambitious about photography and want to be part of our team, we welcome your application. Most of my assistants learn so much that they can do full scale shoots completely on their own within a year of training and are extremely happy about their training. You will work with big budgets, wonderful models, the best camera and computer equipment that money can buy and travel all over the world as part of your work, but… we are very particular about who we accept.

We expect you to be fabulously and completely dedicated to photography. Your passion does not have to be stock photography, but it must be an interest in commercial photography and not journalistic photography.

We do not accept applications from competitive microstock photographers that want to learn from us and pursue their own career afterwards.

You must be willing to commit for at least two years or more and not produce stock for yourself in this period. However, if you have talent, there may be a very well paid job waiting for you.

You will get:

  • A Mac Pro laptop for work and home use. (basically yours to have with you)
  • A Mac Pro workstation with a 30 inch or 23 inch screen for work.
  • A very high degree of responsibility from day one.
  • A Canon mark III for yourself.
  • A basic “student” salary of about 2000 USD per month + bonuses.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation per year.
  • No more than 40 working hours per week, normally less.

We’re looking for:

  • A highly ambitious and intelligent student.
  • A perfectionist student who is capable of taking personal responsibility for the quality of the end product and keep working with it until it is perfect.
  • A good English speaker.
  • A person that does not get agitated or take offense of criticism.
  • A person that willingly accepts taking part in all aspects of a stock production, from carrying heavy bags, setting up equipment, endless Photoshop retouching or sometimes working late at night.

When applying for jobs or for launching your own carrier, having been part of the Yuri Arcurs team will give you immediate international recognition. This job is the equivalent of the Rolls Royce in photography education, so if you have a mediocre mindset, don’t apply. If you are finished reading this and think that this sounds just right for you and could be an exiting challenge, then you might just be the one we are looking for. Before applying for the job, you should know that we have a lot of people writing us about this job, so take your time to put something together that will make your application stand out.

Send your application directly to jobs@arcurs.com

Post edit: I am personally (yuri) reading your application, but I am recieving two to three applications per day right now so be patient. Unfortunately 80% of the applications are discarded because of lack of effort in putting together a good email presentation and lack of realistic thinking (you have to be able to live and work  in Denmark, traveling a lot, etc). So if you want a 500% increase in your chances –  think about this before sending me something mediacure.
