10 Beauty Tips that work. How to prepare for a photo shoot!

How to prepare yourself before a shoot, a wedding or a special occasion where you just want to “shine”.

Basic preparations are essential for getting good pictures or a great look. I (the photographer) will do my very best to get the best out of a shoot and most of our shoots have taken very long time to plan, so don’t show up all hung-over or looking like a mess. Here is how to be just so beautiful on the day of the event.

Certain elements are out of the photographers reach to influence, and are up to you. These elements that are listed below, are things that people take for granted but nevertheless almost always forget. Therefore, take them seriously if you want a good result. If you are a model and have been asked to read this, It is absolutely necessary to follow every aspect.

Don’ts

Do not tan yourself for three days before the shoot, your skin will be slightly red.

Do not clean or scrub your face AT ALL on the day of the shoot. If you feel like cleaning your skin on the day of the shoot this should be done extremely gentle and “almost” without water.

Do not scratch or irritate any impurities in the days before the shoot.

Do not try out a new hairstyle that you are unsure of before the shoot. Go safe – always.

Don’t party or drink the night before.

Follow the instructions giving by our stylist just before the shoot. If you have any questions about what clothes to bring, then call her. Generally you should always bring a “lot” of clothes.

Do’s

Bring food for yourself (a must have), water and a warm set of clothes. We will normally have food for you at the set, but bring a snack anyway.

Wash your face a little roughly (exfoliate your skin) just before you go to bed the night before a session. (Gentlemen: Please do this too)

Be shaved where appropriate. Girls: Legs and under your arms as well as forearms (Yes… Forearms too). Guys: Be shaved nicely unless you have been instructed not to.

Clean your nails. (Everyone forgets this, and it cannot be effectively retouched afterwards)

Have your eyebrows plucked, boys too. I would suggest you visit youtube and watch a few instructional videos before you begin.

Get enough sleep. At least two hours more then you normally would. It’s best to get up later then normal instead of getting to bed earlier. Our shoots don’t start that early so spend your time sleeping instead of other things.

Small Children:

Make sure we shoot at a time when you know your child will be the most active. (let us know) A sleepy child finds a photographer very annoying.

I applied and got a ticket to Denmark – German model Eva-Marie Tells her story of shooting wiht the Yuri Arcurs Crew

Some days later I found myself writing an email and asking to become a model, I followed the guidelines for new models, although I did not really believe in getting a result from that – Ok, I have a nice smile and I am a natural type, but..

I got a reply the next day and was basically invited to Denmark immediately, everything paid for. It toke a few months of finding the right time for a visit and making sure that everything was clarified, but soon I was on my way.

  1. I’m a microstock photographer and just getting started with shooting models. This advice is priceless for me to supply to the people I will be shooting in the future, particularly as few of them will be professional models.

A very generous resource you’ve created here Yuri, thankyou.
