This year Yuri Arcurs Photography is putting together an elite international academy program in the hope of producing the most competent and gifted photography class of 2015. This private funded program runs for three years, during which participants will be given a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience travel to exotic locations, a first-class photography education from some of the industry’s leading experts, and working experience through interactions with real projects, clients and top models.
We are looking to recruit 10 – 15 candidates, who will have to prove they are motivated, ambitious and bright. You will be given the opportunity to prove you have what it takes at our two-week long photography boot camp in January 2012. Very little photography knowledge is needed, we will equip you with what you need to know.
During the 3 year education you will have exams in the following subjects:
• The technical skills required to use all Nikon, Canon and Hasselblad cameras.
• Video recording and editing with SLR camera’s, RED epic and others.
• Basic and advanced photoshopping.
• Advanced RAW processing.
• Advanced digital image theory.
• Shoot planning and execution planning.
• Creative research, Image Critique.
• Branding, Client managing, Invoicing, Legal aspects.
How to qualify:
In order to qualify for the program, you must pass a 2 week boot camp in Cape Town, South Africa. The boot camp offers all it’s participants an opportunity to receive first-class photography training, even those who do not get accepted into the program.
To be considered for the photography boot camp you must:
• Manage your own accommodations and travel into Cape Town for the boot camp duration.
• Bring your own digital SLR camera that can produce at least 16 mega pixel images.
• Bring at least one 50mm or 85mm lens that can shoot no less than 2.0 in aperture.
• Bring at least 16 Gb of memory for your camera (CF preferred).
• Be able to stay 2 weeks in Cape Town for training and assignments from January 3rd 2012.
• Be able to dedicate 3 years of your life for this education starting from January 23rd 2012 and have no problem spending up to half of the year in all parts of the world with the primary base in Cape Town, South Africa.
• Have no criminal record or any other criteria that would not allow you to travel to Europe or other places.
• Agree to potentially being part of a TV production about the boot camp for reality TV.
How to apply:
Contact us no later than DECEMBER 1st on jobs@arcurs.com and make sure to mark the mail “Photography student” and include ALL of the following to be considered for the education:
• Motivation letter – tell us why you are interested in this education.
• Your CV.
• Any reference letter from previous employers.
• Something about yourself.
• A photograph of yourself.
• A statement showing a clean criminal record.
The final class candidates will be announced on JANUARY 17th 2012. The best candidates will be offered a job at Yuri Arcurs Photography after graduation.

Wow, what an amazing opportunity.
Do I understand correctly that the people that get accepted get this three year program ‘for free’?
Wish I could join this.
This would be a great adventure for sure.
Nice idea. But, erm, what’s with the 16mp requirement?
That’s a crock if you’re on the Nikon platform.
The D3s – widely considered to be one of the best performing digital cameras money can buy and used by many of the world’s top pros does not qualify for this.
Having more mega-pixels does not make you more serious about your craft. Thought we’d all worked that out by now.
why the 16MP? maybe because it means a extra size at IS and FT and for sure a lot more
They are offering 15 lucky people a fascinating education and you guys are complaining that 16MP is too much??? You can get an 18 MP camera for 500 Dollars…photography is NOT about the camera…that is just a tool, like your pen.
Good luck to the successful applicants.
Actually, it is the organizers who are worried about the megapixels. So, i think you may have given them a smack in the face with your comment. Good for you
Offered a job after graduation? After graduation of the boot camp or after graduation of the three years? Is the “job” paid?
Is there a specific place we have to stay while we’re in Cape Town?
I’d be totally cool with traveling for half the year, but how would the six months be divided? Would it allow for us to have a part-time job for the time we’re not traveling?
How intense would the filming be for the reality TV show? 24/7 or just a few hours a day?
How many people do you expect to sign up for the boot camp? !0 or 100? Is there a cap on how many you will let into the boot camp?
Is there a tentative list of the other photographer teachers who might participate?
I think this sounds pretty darn cool, but I wish there was more information.
Sounds like a great opportunity. The only thing I am missing is the f 2.0 but that can be fixed with a samyang.
However 2 weeks on our money in Cape Town… From my country to there only the ticket is 1500 euro + accommodation there, food and what not. And for me to sum up 3-4000 euro is like working 24/7 for 2 years. This is like a school for those with an elite financial status… Why not do it somewhere where it is more accessible to people…And indeed, what about those 15.. still paying for everything? You are great Yuri, but sounds like a really tough financial effort.
In case we’re one of the lucky candidates that are selected after boot camp, do we have to pay for all the travel expenses that we make during the 3 years of education?
Travel expenses will be paid fully, All three years. The idea is that the candidates we choose will be able to pay for the education through relatively fast work with real clients and on real shoots. I my eyes the best practice is in doing.
If you finalize with a good exam you will be offered a job.
1. You can stay anywhere in Cape Town. You must just be able to show up at our headquarters every day for classes.
2. At least half a year. And those six months you might be three in Denmark, two in Australia, 1 in Japan. Etc. But you will be all over the place.
3. Pretty intense if we get the contracts. This is not settled.
4. We expect about 500 applications and will select 100. Out of those we expect 10-20 to pass for the class. This is elite. Only the best of the best, but don’t let this stop you. The adventure of the bootcamp will be a thing of itself.
5. Yes. But we have to keep that secret. Our education is aimed a real life. Surviving as a photographer in today’s world.
Yes. The education is free (with a very low pay on top). That’s why we only select the best.
Q. It’s a 3 years course with no dates defined? Being one semester of classes per year all in random events?
A. This is full time. About 4 weeks of vacation each year. Classes and exams are not ordered in semesters. Some take four weeks, some take a year..some require you to be in another country and do a project.
Thanks for the response, Yuri.
I don’t think I worded my second question very well. I meant that if we are traveling for six months, what are we doing for the other six months? During the six months we are not traveling, would be be able to (or should we have to, due to financial reasons) get another job?
You said that there is “a very low pay on top [of the education].” Do you have an estimate of how much that will be? Will that be enough for us to live on? Would it be enough to pay our student loans?
Thanks!
You will certainly will not need another job and will not be able to. Doing the other six months you will be training, going to class, passing exams and shooting images. Just not around the world.
I can only disclose the financial terms to the final candidates, but we are talking about a survival minimum kind of income with bonuses depending on grades, projects. etc.
What is the age limit to this? I assume you want young people for a reality show? Thanks! Sounds a great opportunity!
If you let me slide with the 16mp limitation, I am confident that I can more than keep up w/ the others.
Let me come to the boot camp with my Olympus E-PL2 and I’ll be ready to drop everything!
We are dropping the MegaPixel requirement down to 10mp from 16m, but it must be a digital SLR
Hi Yuri. I’ve been following this on the Facebook comments, but there’s some good questions here too.
I have some to add.
1: Where in Cape Town are you guys based? Public transport is limited, and where we get accommodation will affect getting to your offices on time each day.
2: When will applicants expect to know if they are selected? Ticket prices can be high from Europe, especially close to the time of flying. If the closing date for applications is Dec1st and the course starts Jan 3rd, there isn’t much time to book flights.
3: The criminal record statement. Is this just a letter saying “Hey, I’m a nice guy” or is it something more official, such as the CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks used by schools in the UK?
PS: Thanks for dropping the MP limit to include more photographers without the extra 4 or 6 megapixels on quite decent cameras.
This is absolutely perfect for me or I might be perfect for the boost of this project.Thank you Yuri for organizing it. I hope to see you in January.
It looks like a miracle for me!
I have been searching for months where to find the proper education in EU, but it seems like nothing really good is avalible for an able ready and willing guy without huge sum of money in the pocket.
I’ll definetly do my best to get into your Academy! Thank’s for the opportunity!
Hank
What is the age requirement on this? Couldnt find it in the text. Thanks.
I am so excited, my head is going to explode…
Isn’t asking questions here considered an attempt at contacting Yuri directly?
)
It’s really great opportunity, but i can’t afford the trip, unfortunately.
If the deadline for sending the application is December, the 1st, when the selected profiles for the January bootcamp will be announced? I mean, we have to book airplane tickets all the way to Cape Town and it would be more cost-effective to do this at least 2 months before the expected date of flight…
It would be great to gether a group of students and rent an apartment in Capetown together. As my research has shown it is not really cheap place to rent a room for a single person.
Well, if somebody’s excited just as me – drop me a line, we’ll build an international team!
“1: Where in Cape Town are you guys based?”
In City Bowl – Roeland Street.
“2: When will applicants expect to know if they are selected?”
They will know if they are selected for the boot camp by mid-December. I know it’s a short notice, but everybody should get the chance to apply.
“3: The criminal record statement. Is this just a letter saying “Hey, I’m a nice guy” or is it something more official, such as the CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks used by schools in the UK?”
Background checks will be done on everyone who is chosen after the end of the boot camp. We prefer letters of affidavit from police stations, but will accept a letter stating the applicants name, ID number and saying I declare I have no criminal record – we know that it takes a while sometimes to get these letters.
“4: What is the age requirement on this?”
There is no age requirement, but you must be old enough to travel the world and not get in any kinds of legal trouble because of it.
Cape diem
I understand that Yuri must be very busy to answer all of the questions, but I would really like to talk to somebody of the staff members about the details.
Could you give us e-maill adress of the person who we could bug with all of our questions about the boot camp? Thanks!
Hope I won’t get disqualified for this question (:
I work for Yuri in Cape Town. You can email me any questions at arcurs.productions@gmail.com
Hi Yuri, thanks for offering such a great opportunity. I have one more question to add: If accepted into the program after boot camp, aproximately how much total time per year will I spent away from my home country? I understadn that there will be about 6 months of travelling to various places around the world every year. But how much additional time will be spent in Capetown? How often will I be able to return home during the 3 years? Probably there are other people besides me with family ties who would like to know about this…
@Hank & Patrick: You can direct all your more specific questions to arcurs.productions@gmail.com as Jessica mentions. Or simply to jobs@arcurs.com as specified in the flyer.
Hi guys – as a Cape Town pro photographer, all I’ll be saying is – Welcome!!! I’m not interested in going on the course, but you’re welcome to give me a buzz when you’re here just for a drink (I’m referring to the students, and Yuri, if you’re thirsty, you’re welcome too!)
Enjoy our beautiful city, it is a shooter’s paradise.
Hey there, I just wanted to ask, if you are selected for the final program, and join the team for three years
What costs you as an individual would have to bare, and I know you mentioned the possibility of
Earning extra money, would the final group be earning a set salary or just based on commission.
also would there be any benifit plans or medical insurance on the trips and in SA.
Thanks etienne.
Dear Etienne
This works like a university or college program where you go study for three years and get your photography diploma. Yuri will be paying for the three year education, your accommodation, internet, food costs etc. You will also be able to earn extra pocket money through doing well in assignments. This is an education though so you will not be getting a salary, much like when you go to college you don’t get paid by them. Again, this is not a job, it is an education, so there are no benefit plans.
Regards
Jessica

This is totally unbelievable and a great opportunity, will definately hope to see you guys in jan
that is great opportunity, i can quit my job and pursue my photography dream…. i wish i can join you…
Hello Yuri.
boot camp for reality TV!
How reality the above get?
Does the boot camp have limited entries?
Thank you
Gunther
The prospect of this incredible opportunity, has made going to work everyday so much harder to do… Got to pass the time somehow. Perseverance is key!
Hey! I think this is an exellant chance for me to proof to Yuri that I have what it takes to become one of the worlds top photographers & work for his company at the same time!!!!! I am defenately take the rare chance of a lifetime!!!! I’m from South Africa & I would love your comment on my facebook profile that hosts a lot of my photos!!!!
Look forward to the reality TV show if it comes off.
We have had a lot of requests to let people know early if they have made it to the bootcamp. We understand that you want to book flights etc but applications only close 1 December and we need time to go through everyone’s application. We therefor cannot let you know before mid December whether you have been accepted or not
Yuri, I think the course is awesome! I really want to apply. I really hope to get in and if I do get in, I hope that there won’t be too many expenses as I am going through a bit of a financial rough patch. The 16mp camera, is that really a neccesary requirement because I have a 12.2mp Canon 450D, would you rather prefer a 16mp. I saw on another website (http://www.filmcontact.com/film-jobs/south-africa/photography-course-offered) it said 10megapixel camera not 16. So just wondering.
Dear Ettione
The camera requirements have been reduced to 10mp
Regards
Jessica
I’m selling my studio today to afford the trip! Wish me luck, guys!
Wow this is the most amazing opportunity! I cant believe it! This is something I have hoped for, for so long and staying in Cape town makes it ideal!
Thank you for this once in a life time opportunity Yuri! I plan to use this to show the amount of passion I have for photography!
I have sent an email to Jessica hope to get a reply!
Looking for courses on improving my photography skills, I got across this site and since then I’m planning my trip. That’s just incredible
And I have a question about lenses.
It says “Bring at least one 50mm or 85mm lens that can shoot no less than 2.0 in aperture.”
So what if I have 50 mm f1.8 or 1.4? It confused me a little…
Hope this course will be a real success!
Mustafa, I understand at wider than 2.0 so 1.8 or 1.4 are even better. I am thinking that opportunity also, but I am the old fellow, soon 50. Yes, I know, Yuri said “no age limit at all”.. but come on, almost 50
Thnx Jarba,
Anyway 50 is a good age to start something new. Who knows, maybe this is what you need!
At what stage do you need to submit photos from your portfolio? I see you want the following submitted in the post above, but no sample images required??
This is such an exciting opportunity and I have everything ready to send off, expect when I went to the police station yesterday to get a clearence certificate, they said it would take 4-6 weeks to get? That is crazy!! I just hope I get it before the 1st of December 2011 dealine, because you know how it goes with these institutions…I have so many instances where documentation or files have been lost in the system…. fingers crossed XXX.
Tania, Yuri had already written a little about it. Check it:
“The criminal record statement. Is this just a letter saying “Hey, I’m a nice guy” or is it something more official, such as the CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks used by schools in the UK?”
Background checks will be done on everyone who is chosen after the end of the boot camp. We prefer letters of affidavit from police stations, but will accept a letter stating the applicants name, ID number and saying I declare I have no criminal record – we know that it takes a while sometimes to get these letters.”
Sorry, wrong quote, but I hope you’ll understand me, guys.
The course is awesome and I understand that this is a good way to recruit skilled photographers. But I wonder about the length of the course, three years is a long time. Who owns the rights to images that are taken during the course? Who owns the rights to reselling these images after the course? During the course a student must have taken thousands of pictures.
Actually I not only don’t care who will own pictures made by me during this period of time (pictures made with studio’s cameras, studio’s lights and so on) but even want to payback this way for my tuition. As you could notice it was said that you won’t ever have an opportunity to pay for this kind of education. I wonder how much it would cost to rent a Hasselblad H4D+lenses for example and a set of ProFoto lights to learn operating it…
People, this is like your personal investigation into your education! Personally I am ready to quit my job and leave my country chasing a dream. Three years? Damn, I finished 5,5 yrs at the university with like 3-4 trips per year to pass my exam sessions. I would really like to get into a team of motivated people, who would be crazy as me to travel the globe taking pictures, not just getting money.
I noticed that my post looks just like mymotivation letter. Sorry, guys (:
Jessica Styles…YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will be applying as soon as I get my final year portfolio work back
*excitement*
This is IT.. Best news of the year for me.. World here i come
I agree Hank! I would eat dirt every day for 3 years for this! Bring it on!
Yes, the course is ”awesome”, this one word can keep more inside as it suggests. One word can tell you more than thousand pictures.. or how it was
Yes, I know that the Duracell bunny can run three hours or even more with one battery. But I also like to have a reserve battery after that
It’s my way of doing things, first I explore and after that comes action! That’s why I like to know about the rights.
As a matter of fact, I have to solve a few other things than just to quit my job and leave my country: I have a house with a mortgage where I live with my wife and dog. Fortunately there is plenty of time to solve them
And, you never know, maybe we see in SA.
hey,
but was just wondering if this program will happen again, after 3 years or is it just this one time opportunity?
this sounds super cool
thanks
ALL I CAN THINK OF IS THIS COURSE .. JUST BEING PART OF IT.. I LOVE LIFE .. THIS IS IT!!!!!!!!!!
What an amazing opportunity. I recently quit my job in Singapore and boarded a sailing vessel headed to Cape Town. I have been focusing on my photography during the trip trying to capture some truly amazing shots from some pretty exotic places in the Indian Ocean. I read this two days ago 700 miles from land in the closest direction and considered grabbing my guitar and using it as a paddle to get me to the Cape faster…
Good luck to everyone who applies andi hope tp see you there. Mid-December cannot come soon enough.
Unfortunatley, here in my area, they will not give you a letter until they do the actual check… systems seems so out dated:(((
This is nice photography bog .I think this is amazing photos………..
stock photography
Hi Tania Minnaar i just came back from applying for that Police Clearance .. If i understand correct a letter from me with my ID NO. AND NAME AND STATING A HAVE NO CRIMINAL RECORD , will that also be accepted.. thank you
hey i read no previous experience req.so portfolios are needed for what, ilm definitely applying as im a jewellery student in my last year, great opportunity to learn and travel
I think its because stock agencies require that the camera be at least 12mp, but to be more on a comfortable ground a 16mp is good to have. Having said that, 16mp camera should not be a requirement for a workshop.
It is also becoming more evident that MP is not going to be a huge push in the future as it is reported that more people are viewing their photos on digital frames, and computers, and printing less, especially in huge size. Even Canon, which is known for pushing MP, this year went backwards with their 1DX announcement.
hi guys sorry but i really need to know if a letter will do stating i have no criminal record as im waiting for the police clearance. I just want to know just in case in does not arrive in time.. Thank you
well i shll be driving from joburg to capetown for this amazing opportunity boot camp. so firstly if anyone needs a lift just gimme a shout. also hurricanehank, accomodation is cheap if u look at the right times in the right places. but im keen to sort out a group effort.. if that doesnt work ill b sleping in my car on the beach
Hi Im wondering if i can have your telephone number ,i have my own car, but i think it will be cheaper sharing 50/50 . il Also bring my gps i have my license we can make turns driving because its about 1400 km . IF there is enyway to contack you let me know Email me on christogftg@gmail.com or if you have mxit or skype or steam hehe just let me know.
hey christo, sure my number is 0833530860, or email me at glenhero@hotmail.com. sure no problem. sounds good
I am SOOOOO excited for this! Preparing everything to send in, I Will be accepted! I know that i have what it takes to be part of this select group!
Randall, a letter from you as below will suffice:
I, FULL NAME, ID NUMBER: …………………………, hereby state that I have a clean criminal record and have never been convicted of any crime in any country.
This will be checked up on should you get through to the final stage, but for now, we just want some sort of evidence that you are clean
Ben, those who buy stock photographs often use them as very large images on buildings or windows – hence the high MP requirements. However, as you have seen the MP requirement has been dropped to 10MP. Those who are successfully for the education will be provided with cameras that meet the high standards of the company.
Hi, yes.. i think that will be accepted….
I wonder how many people will really attend the course?
Hi
Wow!! I can’t believe i found such an amazing opportunity. After being so desperate to get into photography, i see something like this. No way i’m passing it up.
Hope to see you all in Cape Town!
Psyched, already stay in Cape Town, well 20 min drive from it. Can only cross my fingers, always up for new experiences. May the best man/lady win.
I have a statement showing a clean criminal record from 2008, will this be OK cause getting one in my country (South-Africa) in time before the closing date is nearly impossible.
2009 I mean
Hi Frank, yes that will be acceptable.
This sounds SO nice!
I have some questions too:
Would you prefer if i add some of my photos (like a portfolio) to the application?
Are you looking for a particular style in the photographers work?
May the application be written in danish?
How long would you prefer the application part “motivation letter” to be?
If you are selected to the bootcamp, you will get more information about the bootcamp before you travel to Cape Town, right?
//Sofie
Can someone suggest a hotel close to the course place please?
this sounds like a great opportunity. But, why don’t you want any of our photography as part of the application process?
Also i was wondering what type of photography we will be doing?
Sofie, you can add some portfolio work if you like, it definitely won’t hurt your chances
Remember that we are looking for passionate people, so this is a vital part of you application.
There is no specific style, just remember that this is for stock photography.
We would prefer applications in English.
The motivational letter can be as long as you want it
Yes, you will receive further information about the bootcamp should you be selected.
Mustafa, the course is based in Roeland Street, Cape Town. So google hotels near Zonnebloem or Vredehoek, Cape Town.
Allen, we do not want to exclude people who have not yet had the chance to build up a portfolio. We know that there are many people with great potential and passion who have just not yet had the opportunity to expand or explore the photography world. You can certainly send us some of your work, but not having a portfolio will not lower your chances of getting in to the bootcamp.
The course will be based around stock and commercial photography work as this is Yuri’s speciality.
Hi Randall, a letter is fine…
Hi Mustafa
There is a hotel right across the road from the office, The Kimberley Hotel. I have checked the rates and it can be as low as R175 per person sharing. There are places cheaper than this but if you want something close to the office, you cannot get any closer
The website for this hotel is: http://www.sleeping-out.co.za/member_rates.asp?MemberID=5823
Hi there,
I just read this amazing news with great excitment!!! However I have a few questions:
1) Is there anything planned during boot camp for those of us who are vegetarians?
2) Can you give a rough idea of the financials for the 3 year education? I need to seriously think if it’s worth resigning from my current 700K USD a year job.
3) Does it really have to be in Cape Town??? I mean, South Africa is not really the safest country in the world right now. I suggest Lichtenstein instead.
Thanks in advance Yuri.
JPN
Hi Jeanpierre,
1) We will not be providing food during the bootcamp – food and accommodation is up to you for those two weeks. However, during the 3 year education, should there be any special requirements, I’m sure we will make a plan!
2) You will be getting a very low amount of money. However, your accommodation, food and equipment will be paid for. This is not a job, it is an education. You need to think about the kind of training you will be getting under Yuri from this. The people who undergo this program will come out the other end as excellent photographers of a world-class standard with 3 years of on-the-job intensive training. Many of Yuri’s current photographers have undergone similar training and are currently amongst the best stock photographers.
3) Yuri Arcurs Productions recently opened a branch in Cape Town, South Africa and this is why the education is passed here. Cape Town is used by thousands of photographers and models during the summer months, because of its outstanding scenery.
Contrary to popular belief, Cape Town is a safe, vibrant city. Rumours of “dangerous” South Africa are widely exaggerated and Cape Town is one of the safer cities in SA. Have a look at this website to get a better idea of the good in South Africa: http://www.sagoodnews.co.za/this_week/index.html
Guys, if you need to find a hotel near the Boot Camp headquaters (Roeland street) check the website booking.com. There are many different hotels to chose from!
I’ve booked a place in 4-bed-room at Mountain Manor Guest House in the centre of Capetown.
We could live together with the boot camp participants and it would be much more fun and secure, that to share a room with somebody you don’t know!
Drop me a line it you have questions. MMGH looks like a nice place to stay for low cash
hurricanehank, we don’t know you either!!! Can you give us some reference about yourself so we can make ourselves an opinion whether as to it would be more secure to share a room with you?
Thanks
JPN
hmm! funny how things can find you when you most need it : ) I will definitely be applying, thank you for the opportunity.
I just had one question: will everyone who is selected for the boot camp be allowed to complete it or will there be eliminations during this time?
thank you!
Hello again! I was just wondering if there is any word yet on the filming of the boot camp, and if it is being filmed, will that not influence the selection of the final participants? I mean, will we be selected because of our technical capabilities, and talent, or will ratings and producers have a deciding vote?
Super excited either way, putting on some war paint!
Lezigzag – Everyone who is selected will be allowed to finish. There won’t be eliminations. If you can take the heat, you can stay
Petri – The filming is still in the pipeworks, but either way, Yuri Arcurs Productions will be selecting based on technical capabilities, attitude, talent, passion and character. Ratings and producers will not play a part in the selection of the finalists.
Much info to those, who plan visiting Capetown for the first time (accomodation, sightseeing, etc…):

I am so going to try get onto this course thank you it is such an amazing opportunity for passionate people… 49 years old, always wanted to be a photographer, but somehow ended up a single mom with 3 children, my two boys 18 and 19 yrs are fanatical about photography and one of them will also be applying, You may end up with an interesting mother son team!! We live in cape town and I am ready… and have been wanting to study sooo badly.
Respect, Deborah! (:
Check out capetownalive.co.za, good look at the local capetown vibes.
Hi there everyone!
Just about to send all my documents today. I just have a few questions before sending all; Should the Free Criminal Statement be signed? Or just by sending my full name and ID stating I have a free criminal record is ok? Just asking because right now It’s pretty complicated for me to find a scanner and printer.
Will also like to know if it is necessary to send any reference letter from previous employers in case you didn’t have.
Today I sent all documentation. Looking forward to see you all in cape town. I’m so exited…
Hey i wish you all the best on this adventure!! I will check u on MTV or whatever… good luck, godspeed and may the fotogenic force be with you
Do we need a reference letter if we didn’t work anywhere previously?
Alejandro & Mustafa – we would like a reference letter if at all possible. It helps give us an idea about how other people view your personality. Even if you find someone who you did volunteer work for or a teacher from school. But you will not be marked down if you do not have one.
Alejandro – it is not necessary to sign the document. Just your ID number and full name, plus the statement, will be good enough.
I currently live in JHB and do not have the funds for travel and accommodation in Cape Town, yet (thanks to the MegaPixel drop) I know “almost” have all the hardware required to partake which I have over the years inherited from my father.
However I am way too determined and passionate about this opportunity to just let live. I will afford myself the opportunity not by asking, but by proving. It’s time to get to work!
hi yuri. I only found out about the application now and the criminal record statement is going to take three to four weeks at quickest to get approved and the applications need to be in before the 1st of december which doesnt leave me enough time to get the record. Would it be possible if I send the application in so long without the criminal statement and send it in as soon as I get hold of it? I know for sure that I definitely don’t have a criminal record.
Brittany, it was already written about your question. Check it:
Yuri: ”Background checks will be done on everyone who is chosen after the end of the boot camp. We prefer letters of affidavit from police stations, but will accept a letter stating the applicants name, ID number and saying I declare I have no criminal record – we know that it takes a while sometimes to get these letters.”
thanks so much! was in such a state about it I didnt see that>
Hey everyone, applications close soon so make sure you get them in soon if you haven’t already!!
2 weeks till submissions close… Good luck guys… Can’t wait!!quote>
This is the longest wait I have ever experienced, I have had to resort to sleeping in a straight jacket! Hehehe so extremely, incredibly, uncontrollably excited!!!!
After the 2 weeks, where will the education continue? If it will be longer than a month, I have to complete the passaport formalities.
Is there a planned schedule?
@Petri: I feel exactly the same as you do. I don’t want to do anything or go anywhere. I can just stay here and wait for the announcement about bootcamp.
Is it possible to reveal how much have currently applied? Just a bit curious to see how many people applied to the course
Mustafa – after the boot camp, the final class candidates will be announced. This will happen on 17 January. The 3 year course will then begin for these final students on 23 January 2012. This will be based in Cape Town.
There is a planned schedule but you will be informed of this in due course, should you be accepted into the bootcamp.
how do we apply for this program?
what kind of photographs am i expected to send?
Is it not possible to move dates closer to February, the rationale is that for some getting a visa to get into South Africa (plus the other transiting countries if applicable) may take a few weeks if you are part of the unlucky group who are not exempt from getting a tourist visa.
Just a thought because as you guys will release the decisions mid December and as most embassies close at around the 20th and only open on the 5th (in some cases) this could clash for some people. Even if the event is moved to say 20th of January that could allow for ample time for the visa applications, accommodation and flight bookings?
Thanks
H – unfortunately the dates are already set in stone. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Precious – all the information you need is in the text at the top of the page. Please have a look there.
Hi I was wondering if I could somehow get conformation that my email was received. Just been having problems with net. It says the info was sent I jus wanna make sure. Can’t be left outta this selection process. Also once again if anyone needs a lift from joburg for the boot camp gimme a shout

hi there,
i’m in matrix next year, but i was wondering would this opportunity arise again in a couple more years perhaps?
Hey Jess, I have answered you on FaceBook
Hi Yuri Arcurs staff
What is meant by “something about yourself”?
Do we need to submit a written document?
It’s a bit vague.
Kind Regards,
Shafeeqah
Hi there I keep getting this error when trying to mail my application. Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 … User unknown (state 14).
Shafeeqah, we just want to know a little bit about you – what you enjoy doing, hobbies that you have, where you studied. Basically just a little introductory paragraph.
Gareth, that’s odd. Try this email address: arcurs.productions@gmail.com
Hi!
I send all my documents last 24th of November and don’t know for sure if you received the mail. Did you send any confirmation mail?
Thank you very much.
Well I think its pretty awesome to be given such an opportunity.. I just wna do and learn from the best..
Hi Jose, yes we have received all your documents.
Application deadline is close, hurry up, guys!
This is absolutely incredible! I have already submitted and am anxiously awaiting to hear if I have made the cut!!
I look forward to everything that will come out of this
Thanks!!
I really want to participate the boot camp and later to 3-years education. I am married and have a child who is 3 years old. During 3 years is there a chance to bring them to Capetown with me? Will there be some difficulties or any problems that I (or we) may encounter if I bring my family with me? Thanks.
Steve, you can do so if you wish, but you would need to pay for their accommodation, food, etc. Also remember that you will be spending 6 consecutive months away from Cape Town, and so essentially away from your family – unless you can afford to bring them with.
Hey guys, last day to get your applications in, make sure you don’t miss the deadline!!
I just found out about this today! I hope you do this again
So excited about this opportunity! Submitting my application today. Good luck, everyone!

Sofie, Laneishia, if you can get in your emails today, we will still consider you!!
Melanie, yes we do have your application! We’ll be getting the last confirmation emails out today.
I have everything ready to go, just a quick question: would you like all items split into separate PDF attachments, or pasted right into the email? Thanks!
Hey guys- I’m on the west coast in the USA. Is the submission open still? If so, is it open until midnight MY time or is it closed when the people who are reading the submissions get to their local midnight?
Hillary, attachments would be better
Taylor, it is currently 11am on 1 December here – but we will be accepting applications that come in today due to time differences!
Ok starting to freak out a bit now… So close yet so far away…
When? And how will we be notified if we are slected?
Hi Guys, Kelly and I are busy going through all the applications (we started yesterday) and it is taking really long

good luck everyone!
Hello everybody. How are you feeling?
While we are waiting to hear first result I wanted to share a few thoughts.
We know very little information of what projects we will be working on for 3 years. Why 3 years? How many of us know what financial resources they will have during this time or after? (Will you have enough money to see your folks for Christmas?) How much do we know about the quality of education that we will get? However, we are ready to drop off everything and fly to Cape Town. Why? Because it sounds like an adventure, like a dream about freedom and an amazing unknown opportunities that can open their doors to us. And then… we are artists who rarely logical and very spontaneous.
I think about future of stock agencies and the future of photography in general and my place in all of it. I left Seattle and my photography business that I had for two years– so I can stay in Europe and fly to Cape Town in January. By the way, how Photographer with tripod, camera, lenses, laptop, flashes and etc. TRAVEL in Europe? 20kg – max for most airline companies? I guess, I am coming to Cape Town naked… but with my tripod.
If it was my business/school project – I would try to sell the idea of reality TV show about 10 newbie photographers traveling the world, working hard, learning, experiencing and becoming the best they can be. This team of course can do some typical stock, famous models and celebrities. However it can also create or join projects focusing on environment, economy, political, art, science and etc. topics around the world. Some agents from LA can be invited to the photography boot camp in January. The can sell the idea based on video material to studios and networks and get a contract for a TV Show.
The stock photo agencies are getting overloaded with similar photos for typical commercial use. There is a need for exploring unknown creative paths and bringing more business connections to the plate. By building a team of 8-10 people where every person brings something new, where people challenge each other but work in harmony – you can potentially create something very powerful. But this team needs to be very carefully selected so everybody stays happy. 3 years is a lot way….
Iriana seems to have caught the idea. To all of mentioned above I would add that with Yuri’s resources and experience it would be logic to start personal photostock imho.
Hope we will be allowed to take part in this great project!
Hi Guys
I have managed to get a good deal for you guys we need accommodation, the hotel across the road from the bootcamp office has 14 rooms and can give us them for R100 per night, per person sharing, which is an awesome price plus there will be no traveling costs then. It is in town centre so there are lots of shops, clubs and tourist attractions nearby. We will have the results very soon, you will have to let us know ASAP about the accommodation so you can book your spot!
hey jessica, i think we are hoping to hear first if we get in or not before we book accommodation for cape town. hope the selection process isnt stressing you guys out so much. hope to hear from you guys soon.
Hey Jessica,
I saw that you said that you were going to send out confirmation emails to everyone to say that you had received their applications. I didn’t receive a confirmation letter, so I wanted to see if you got my application. I sent it on Nov. 29.
Thanks!
Tomorrow is last working day of this week, I’m checking my Email and checking again.
Adventure!
Hi Jessica, can you give us an email address where to contact you in case we are selected and we are interested in the rooms you have found?
Second: can you please let me know how many people would be sharing every room?
Thank you very much indeed for your time and efforts. Hope to be seeing you in CT in January!!!
E

Hi jessica , i’m frank m kumalo every time when i applaying. i’m always loser such a great opportunities like this. and i’m so seriouly about photography career but its ok ok its God who knows about my career.
whether one of the criteria was to make an idiot of myself on facebook?
Howzit! To all the people that made it through, well done! To those that applied but wont make to the boot camp, don’t despair, opportunities are around every corner. Only roughly 10% of the “boot-campers” are going to make past that stage anyway. So keep your chins up. See the rest of you in Cape Town!
bootcamp!!!!! im so excited and grateful for this chance! still cant believe it !!!!
So excited to meet you all!!! First obstacle down, now its time to face the real challenges. Bring it on! I have never been more ready for anything in my life. Thank you at Arcurs productions for giving me this opportunity, I assure you that you will not be disappointed. I will dig to China with my bear hands for this.
